Portuguese for Residents.
Thirteen units that take you from not freezing in the first exchange to telling the story of your week. Written for adults who live in Brazil, work in English, and want the rest of their life to happen in Portuguese.
The full course runs in groups on Google Meet. Write to us to be told when the next one starts — details here.
By the end, without thinking about it first.
Keep a conversation in Portuguese when you didn't understand. Handle a counter, a pharmacy, a delivery and a building manager. Say what happened to you yesterday.
Turn down an invitation without sounding cold. Complain about a charge without a fight. And follow a voice note sent at full speed — which is where most foreigners give up.
Everything comes from the same source, so nothing contradicts.
The unit sheet
One printed sheet per lesson, with the sentences, the pronunciation, that unit's sounds, and a blank grid where you write down by hand what came out wrong.
The review deck
Cards with audio at two speeds, on your phone. Ten minutes a day beats an hour on a Sunday.
The community
Access to the group chat, where announcements, extra material and questions between lessons live.
Who this is for.
- You live in Brazil, or you're about to.
- You can read a menu and still can't hold a conversation.
- People around you switch to English to help, and you'd rather they didn't.
- You're willing to say things out loud, badly, in front of someone.
- You're visiting for two weeks — the Starter Pack is a better buy.
- You want European Portuguese. This is Brazilian, and unapologetically so.
- You want a certificate more than a conversation.
- You want to learn silently.
We won't promise to erase your accent.
We work first on the sounds that stop you from being understood — the ones that turn one word into another. The rest, the part that merely marks you as foreign, comes later and matters less than people think. You'll be understood. You'll still sound like yourself.
